To Clip Or Not To Clip….
16 AprToe clip pedals were the original attempt by the ‘cyclists of olde’ to ‘marry’ the rider to the bike. The word on the street is that this all began in the 1860’s. Toe clips offered significant advantages over platform pedals because they allow the cyclist to drive the pedal during the full rotation, i.e., pulling up on the pedal as well as pushing down. Toe clips are an ideal choice for commuters who have frequent stops in traffic.
Advantages
Simple to use
No specialized footwear needed – You can achieve stability on the pedal without special cycling shoes. You’re less likely to slip off your pedals than you are with simple platform pedals. Never forget, pedal slippage may result in a forceful introduction of your chamois (and all of its contents) to your unforgiving top bar.
They’re cheaper than clipless pedals
Easy to learn how to use.
Cyclists can utilize their leg power to pull up on the pedal as well as push down when pedaling the bike. You can pedal the complete pedal stroke with toe clips reasonably well by being able to apply force ‘through the bottom’ and ‘over the top’.
Skidding comes easy
Way safer ride downhills
Disdvantages
Still some minor loss of power. Toe clips cannot capture all of the energy the leg provides when moving through the pedal cycle.
Some would argue that toe clip pedals are easier to get out of. Some would argue that they’re harder to get out of.
So….to Clip or Clipless… you decide
ps: you could opt for pedal strap….

Let’s Make Polo Mallet
23 MarHere’s a another tips in case y’all would like to copy & print….
Things You’ll Need:
- Measuring tape
- Ski poles, golf clubs or broomstick
- Handsaw
- Thick plastic ABS pipe (not PVC pipe)
- Drill and drill bits
- Long bolt (longer than the diameter of the ABS pipe) and nut
- Hockey or electrical tape
And here’s how you get your hands dirty ….
-
Step 1
Measure the broomstick, ski pole or golf club to the correct length for your height, usually about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet long. Cut off the end of the pole with the saw.
-
Step 2
Measure out and cut about a 6-inch long piece of plastic pipe. This will be the head of your mallet. You can get ABS pipe at most hardware stores, or see the Resources section.
-
Step 3
Attach a drill bit the same size as the diameter of the pole you created in Step 1.
-
Step 4
//
Figure 1Drill a hole into one side of your plastic pipe piece, and insert the pole into the pipe. Make sure not to make the hole too large, or the pole will slide around. You want it to be tight. See Figure 1.
-
Step 5
Change your drill bit to the diameter of your long bolt.
-
Step 6
//
Figure 2Place your drill and bit on the mallet head at a 90-degree angle from the pole. Drill a hole all the way through the mallet head, the pole and the opposite side of the mallet head. You may need to remove the pole to drill a hole through it. See Figure 2.
-
Step 7
Push the bolt through the two sides of the mallet head and the pole, and screw the nut onto it to secure it. Tighten the nut as much as possible so that it won’t wobble. Use the saw to saw off any part of the bolt end that is sticking out.
-
Step 8
Cover the top end of the pole if it is hollow with a penny or a plastic bottle cap. This will ensure that you don’t hurt your hands while playing. Wrap the end of the handle with hockey or electrical tape to make a grip
